Greenfields
Integrated School founded by Mrs. Mithu
Bhar
in 1991, is an integrated school for normal
mainstream children and children with various
disabilities; except visually impaired.
Greenfields is recognised under section
56(2) of Persons with Disabilities (Equal
Opportunities, Protection of Rights &
Full Participation) Act, 1995. It
is also recognised as NGO by the Government
of West Bengal and Government of India.

Apart from the State and Central Governments,
the organisation has received assistance
from Rotary Clubs, Inner Wheel Club of Jadavpur,
State Bank of India, TISCO, ITC, E.C.Bose
& Co. and other individual organisations
to whom it is extremely greatful.
The school admits children with autism,
cerebral palsy, down’s syndrome, hearing
impairment, learning problems, mental retardation
and emotional disturbance, together with
normal mainstream children for effective
integration in a balanced and healthy society.
Admission is carried on throughout the year.
A mainstream child should be 2+ years old
to be admitted. Mainstream children
above 2years 7months are not eligible for
admission. The school has facility
till Class IV at present and hopes to gradually
expand. A special child, however,
can be admitted at any age subject to availability
of vacancy. Special children, capable
of being integrated are done so. Those
who are not capable are put through special
training and therapy to prepare them for
integration –functional or academic.
Children who are severely sub-normal are
made to work in their own special groups
and are not subject to integration.
The total number of students at the moment
is 91. An average class size depends
on the attention required by a child.
